The Journey of building our forever home

Style of home and location

Hamptons/Coastal style located in Noosa Waters, Australia

Timeline of build

Drawings of plans started in Feb 2016. They started building in Jan 2017 - finishing the home in October 2017

Tell us a little about your build journey

The build was amazing, fun, full on, thrilling, exciting and draining all rolled into one!  I actually really loved it, I think I cried the last week out of exhaustion and frustration over my pool but other then that it was brilliant!

What do you love about the Hamptons style and where did you find your inspiration for your beautiful home?

The Hamptons style is so classic, glamorous and chic all at the same time. It doesn't date and works beautifully with our Australian scenery and climate. I first discovered my love of Hamptons on Pinterest where I started savings pins for my ideal home one day.  The more I discovered the more I loved. My folder grew and I knew one day this was going to be the style of home I designed for my family.

Did you enjoy the process of building and designing your home? Any hiccups along the way or would you do anything differently?

The only hiccup I had was having a newborn and being project manager! My builder was amazing and flexible with a unique understanding of what I wanted. I loved every moment seeing my dream , my drawings and my collection of images come to life.

I think having greater control over the build helped for me, being a designer at heart having the attention to detail and buying everything that went into our house made the journey completely mine, controllable and more enjoyable. It made me responsible for mishaps so I didn't allow that to happen often!

Even Ralphy has his own little spot!

Favourite Room of your house?

I am going to say the poolroom tied with the kitchen. I love the pool room as it's my favourite to relax and wind down.  It has the most perfect view over the pool, with the high ceilings, loft and all white adds to the feeling of tranquillity.

The kitchen is perfect, just the best balance of spaciousness and workability.  It looks so sexy when its all clean and of course is the hub of the home, I can see everything from there!

Is this your forever home or do you have plans for the future?

I thinks it's the ultimate forever home but with me always designing and hubby being a property developer I know this won't be the last. In fact I think there is more coming this very year so watch this space!

Why I chose the country-Hamptons style

We bought our beautiful half acre block of land in a leafy suburb with views of the mountains ranges and surrounded by farm land, so it made sense to keep the style of our home in a country-Hamptons style to suit its surroundings.

Our half acre block with elevated views

Our boys looked so tiny back in 2013!

The first drawings of the front elevation - it was love at first sight!

Having half an acre and a block that measured over 30 metres wide it made sense to design out house in a long ranch style.  To prevent the home looking too long and straight the architect ensured the design had many variances such as verandas, windows that jutted out and garden beds to break up the long lines.  The use of materials were also important for the style. Our house is rendered and we then used Linea weatherboard from Sycon Walls around two large windows for interest. The photography studio entrance is located to the left while the main entry features a large entrance with black door.

The end result of the design is a beautiful country-Hamptons style home.

What I love most about the country-Hampton's style is its ability to make you feel welcome. Its one of those homes that is comfortable year round, either in the cool of summer or in front of the fire in winter. Entertaining family and friends is a breeze either around our dining table or in summer on the deck, or downstairs in the garden.

Visit Sycon Walls for more inspiration and information about getting the look with Linea weatherboard cladding.

To achieve our country Hampton's style look we designed our home with 10 foot ceilings, deep cornices and skirting boards, large banks of windows to take in the beautiful view and added texture such as a marble splash back in the kitchen and the travertine stone on the fireplace. The kitchen also features a butlers pantry which is perfect for hiding away all the small appliances while keeping the kitchen streamlined. Built in cabinetry, beautiful feature lighting, timber flooring and a neutral palette makes our home lovely and timeless.
